Novotel Melaka offers everything that should be expected from Novotel

Recently, I was travelling across Malaysia and stopped off in the beautiful city of Melaka. Although I was only stopping for a short time on my trip, Melaka is a destination in its own right, and tourists flock to the city for its history and delicious Peranakan food. As I often do while travelling, I called in at the Novotel hotel, which is well-known around the world and part of the Accor Hotel Group.

As you may guess from my others posts, I love the Novotel brand of hotels and I try to stay in one when I am traveling. I like to know that what I am getting is quality. I like the consistency across the Novotel range as well. Specifically for Novotel Melaka, I like the spacious rooms, fresh smelling linen, big lobby and modern rooms that all greeted me when I checked in. Being that the hotel was opened in September 2015, it is still brand new and the entire hotel feels that way. That new, comfortable feeling is something that can’t be beaten, especially when weary from travelling across Asia.

When I stay in a Novotel, I pretty much know what to expect before I check in: spacious rooms, free Wi-Fi and comfortable beds. So far, all the Novotel hotels I’ve stayed in around the world have been up to my expectations of what a business hotel should be. Other local hotels in Melaka, while probably still good, may not measure up in terms of rooms or service quality.

Some of the things I loved most about the rooms at the Novotel Melaka were the see through bathrooms (which had blinds to allow privacy), quiet rooms (keeping all the noises of Melaka outside) and plush, soft carpets for my tired feet.

The Novotel Melaka hotel is situated in the centre of the city, which lies 145 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and offers visitors a vast array of attractions. From Red Square and Chinatown to the Orangutan House and Straits Chinese Jewellery Museum, Melaka has a lot to offer any traveller.

Around the Novotel Melaka hotel are local Indian, Peranakan and Chinese restaurants. There is so much choice around the hotel, at extremely affordable prices, that guests should steer clear of eating in the hotel; unless they just want to. In fact, Melaka is a food destination in itself and unless the traveller is tired of local food, there is no reason to eat in the hotel.

There is also a mini-mart across the road from the Novotel Melaka hotel, which gives travellers the opportunity to stock up on snacks and drinks for less than they would pay in the hotel. I grabbed bottles of water and chocolate from the mini-mart to munch on while relaxing in my room and surfing the internet.

While restaurants are close at hand, so are some of the city’s attractions. I was able to easily walk to the A’famosa fortress, Jonker Street and Christ Church while staying at the hotel. Not only were they within walking distance, but they were all easily accessible, preventing me from having sore feet for the rest of the day.

Back at the hotel, I enjoyed the amenities on offer, and made good use of the hotel’s gym. There I was able to get a good sweat on using the running machines and burning the calories I consumed from all the fantastic local food. Located on the fifth floor, the Novotel Melaka provided a swimming pool and spa, which I loved after completing a hard workout. The pool was also perfect to relax in after spending all day on my feet, walking around the city.

In all, the Novotel Melaka is a wonderful hotel with a perfect location. From the friendly staff and cosy rooms to the restaurants and attractions at the hotel’s doorstep, I will definitely be staying at the hotel on my next visit to Melaka.
