Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta
Located on Jl Hayam Wuruk and in the heart of central Jakarta, Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk offers guests easy access to various parts of Jakarta.
I stayed in Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta between 7 – 9 December 2015 for a business trip. Whenever I travel to Jakarta or other cities for business, I like to try out different hotels just for fun. Anyway, the company is paying so why not? đ
I usually prefer to stay around the CBD area of Thamrin, Sudirman as it is more convenient to get to and from office, and also the proximity of malls / cafes around those areas. However when researching hotels to book, I noticed Santika Indonesia Hotels and Resorts opened a new 4 stars hotel at Hayam Wuruk, and since the location is quite accessible I decided to give it a try.
Just a note that Santika Indonesia Hotels and Resorts 4 stars properties are named with an additional âPremiereâ while their 3 stars properties are simply âHotel Santikaâ.
Location
Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta is a new hotel located on Jl Hayam Wuruk, which has some convenient public transport options nearby, such as the busway. However, if you are a foreigner in Jakarta, it is better if you simply call a Blue Bird taxi which is cheap, safe and readily available.
Jl Hayam Wuruk is a busy major road and from there visitors can easily get to attractions such as the National Monument, National Museum, and the Mangga Dua shopping areas. If you are traveling for business, it is also easy to get to Thamrin as it is only a straight road linking Jl Hayam Wuruk and Jl MH Thamrin, although this road gets rather congested at times (which road in Jakarta isnât?).
While getting around is convenient by car, there is nothing within walking distance that is worth mentioning. If you are trying to get a meal in the evening, there are some small chinese food around the corner but thatâs about it. In any case, the area around the hotel is dark and full of traffic and it doesnt look too inviting for a leisurely walk and exploration, especially if you are a family. In fact, while I was exploring the area by foot I got a bit worried when I notice that all the shophouses are closed and it was getting dark. So I quickly hopped into a taxi and went to Grand Indonesia instead.
There is a minimart next door so at least thatâs convenient.
Facilities
Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta has the usual facilities one would expect of a 4 star hotel. As I was there for a business trip I did not get to try out everything. However, I did manage to have a look at the 5th floor swimming pool which is also where the gym was located. The pool is smallish and if you are looking to have a tan there you will be disappointed as it doesnât get much sun. It faces a block of apartment and is almost completely shaded. Next to the pool is a small gym and again, it may be a let down if you are looking for something that is better equipped. There are a few treadmills, some exercise balls, and a few other standard gym equipments and thatâs it. It may probably be sufficient if you are looking to have a quick workout before heading to the office but if you are looking a more serious workout you probably canât in this gym.
There is a restaurant on the ground floor and it seems quite popular during the evenings. I couldnât comment much on the food as I only went there for breakfast. The breakfast spread was good though.
Check in
Check in at the front desk at Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta is smooth. The hotel staffs manning the front desk speaks good english and they are efficient as well. They seem to be quite patient as well. While I was checking in, there is a small group of chinese tourists who does not speak English but who had some issues with the room. While trying their best to communicate with the group, the front desk personnel continued to maintain their smile and patience, which I thought is worth mentioning.
Rooms
I was given a room on the 15th floor (or was it 17? Canât exactly remember) and like most modern hotels, I need to tap my room key card on a sensor in the lift before I can go to my floor. The corridor leading to my room is nice and the carpet feels plush. Probably because it is new, the corridors has a ânewâ smell too. I was getting quite excited on what to expect of the room. From what I saw on the internet, the rooms are not too big but itâs best feature seems to be the full height floor to ceiling windows, and a modern, minimalist design.
I wasnât disappointed.
The room looks exactly what is shown on booking.com (where I book my rooms) and while it is quite small, it doesnât feel too small because of the high ceiling and big windows. There is a sleek writing desk with multiple universal wall sockets for your gadgets, a flat screen TV with quite a number of international channels, coffee and tea making facilities, a safe and everything looks new and clean. I was a little surprised when I noticed the floors are not carpeted but tiled. Iâd understand if this hotel is in some beach resort and having tiles would be the practical and accepted choice, but it seems strange to have tiles in a business hotel in a non-beach setting. Â The bed is firm but not too firm, and the sheets are silky smooth (which I like!). I am looking forward to a good nightâs rest. There is just one major let down, which I will describe in detail shortly.
The bathroom is modern and has a standing shower that is separated from the rest of the bathroom by a glass shower screen. One thing that has always irked me (and many other fellow travellers) when I stay in hotels is if the water pressure in the shower is weak and the hot water is not hot enough. So you end up taking a shower under a limp stream of lukewarm water and that is always irritating. Iâm glad to say that at Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk Jakarta, both the water pressure and hot water supply performed admirably and well, I enjoyed my shower đ
Everything is fine so far but what happened next resulted in me deciding I am not going to return to this hotel anymore.
It is common that hotels have adjoining rooms and in my years of staying in hotels this has never been a problem. However in Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk, I can hear everything that goes on in the next room. Iâm not talking about the usual muffled voices or distant laughter but loud, clear and distinct sounds. I can even hear what the next room had for dinner, where they went for shopping and their plans for the next day. This to me, is totally unacceptable. A business hotel which Hotel Santika has positioned itself as, should give you at least an acceptable amount of quiet and privacy. That is it unable to do so it surprising.
Conclusion
The Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk is a beautiful, brand new hotel, situation in an older part of Jakarta city with easy access to restaurants and shopping. However, because of the low quality of sound insulation in the rooms I wouldnât return.
